Candidate for Governor visits Rochelle on Sunday

Gubernatorial candidate Jeanne Ives

A Republican candidate for Governor made a stop yesterday in Rochelle as she was part of Legislative Sunday at the First Baptist Church.

State Representative Jeanne Ives of Wheaton spoke to area residents about a number of topics. They included the state financial and pension problems, companies leaving Illinois, along with state money for abortions and term limits for lawmakers.

She is challenging current Governor Bruce Rauner.

Ives said that she never thought she would be a candidate for governor in her political career. Her goal was to protect taxpayers.

She also had a message for the local residents. She said Governor Rauner has betrayed his party and hurt the state financially. She also mentioned that taxpayer's money will help pay for abortions in Illinois.

Ives said that the state budget remains a major issue this year facing lawmakers in Springfield. If elected governor, she would have a balanced budget.

State Senator Tim Bivins of Dixon also spoke during the church event. He said a balanced state budget will remain a top issue in 2018.

Bivins has decided not to run for another term in office during the March 20th, 2018 General Primary Election. He was first elected to the state Senate in March of 2008.

State Representative Tom Demmer of Dixon was also scheduled to speak during Legislative Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Rochelle. Due to a scheduling problem, he could not make the event.
