Ford is urging nearly three-thousand owners of an older model pickup truck to stop driving immediately. The unprecedented request comes after the automaker confirmed a second death caused by a defective Takata airbag inflator. Both deaths occurred with inflators installed in 2006 Ranger pickups.
Ford issued a new recall for the vehicles that were originally recalled in 2016. At least 21 deaths worldwide have been linked to the faulty Takata inflators, leading to the largest recall in automotive history. The other 19 deaths happened in Honda vehicles.
