State lawmakers are trying to extract Illinois from a controversial voter verification system. Chicago State Senator Bill Cunningham and others will introduce a bill to get out of the so-called Crosscheck program used to purge voter rolls.
Academic studies find the program plagued with inaccuracies. Cunningham says cybersecurity is also a big concern because Crosscheck puts voters' personal data at risk of being stolen. He says the bill would end that threat. Others say Crosscheck is being used to suppress voting for political gain.
