Officials from the Great Lakes Basin Transportation have failed to appeal in federal court the rejection of its application to construct a 260 mile freight railroad that would have traveled through Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.
Ogle County along with area officials and residents had objected to the proposal due to farm land being used for the project.
The Surface Transportation Board had rejected the company's 2.8 billion dollar plan because it did not provide accurate financial information.
The proposal would have had 26 connections to existing railroads. Great Lakes Basin Transportation was looking at freights trains that would travel around Chicago. The line may have had 110 trains a day.
The company could submit a new application with all of the financial information it did not provide in the first document. Future plans about the project has not been made public at this time.
