Farmers with corn or beans in their fields are getting a bit of a break on the paperwork that's part of Illinois' first ever Harvest Season Emergency. A number of county highway officials yesterday said that they are issuing blanket permits for farmers to haul more grain over their roads, rather than write permits one at a time.
But the highway officials say they have some concerns about the number of overweight trucks, and the damage they could inflict on some of Illinois' rural roads.
