A former LaSalle County Sheriff's deputy wanted by police this week was taken into custody in Earlville yesterday morning. There was no confrontation when 46-year old Lowell "Max" Ambler of Mendota was arrested at a friend's home.
Ambler was wanted for a bail bond violation involving the charges of home invasion and aggravated kidnapping.
The incident took place at a home in Compton on August 26th. The victim was a girl who was babysitting. Ambler had been in a relationship with the girl's mother.
The former police officer is also a suspect in stealing a tractor-trailer in Mendota on Monday night and a car jacking incident in Plainfield Wednesday afternoon.
New charges include aggravated vehicle hijacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Police saw Ambler run into some wooded area near Earlville Wednesday afternoon after they found the vehicle he stole earlier in the day. Authorities say that the former deputy is an avid hunter and also a former police officer in Earlville.
Police say that Ambler has been transported to the Lee County jail in Dixon on the felony charges following the arrest. Bond has been set at 1 million dollars.
