Winnebago County's sheriff says he'll send pink slips to the 911 center if county leaders continue to insist on cutting his budget. Sheriff Gary Caruana earlier this week sent a letter to the deputies who work courthouse security informing them that they'll be laid off if the county pushes budget cuts.
Yesterday Caruana told 911 dispatchers pretty much the same thing.
The Winnebago County board wants the sheriff to cut over four million-dollars from his budget for next year. He says he can cut a million, but anything beyond that will lead to layoffs.
