The Rochelle elementary school district is still looking at a deficit of over a half million dollars following the approval of the new fiscal year budget last night.
The total deficit is just over $625,000. Superintendent Todd Prusator said that the district will receive some help following the approval of the recent state budget.
The district will receive an additional $168,000 from last year's figure.
Prusator said it will take several years to cut into the deficit number.
After the first week of the school year, the district saw a small increase in enrollment numbers. There are 1,511 students attending classes, 19 more than a year ago.
The board also approved the hiring of 4 non-certified employees last night. 3 will be aides and the other a lunchroom supervisor.
