The north bound and south bound lanes of Illinois 251 near I-88 in Rochelle were closed for a period of time yesterday morning after a semi-truck crashed a short time before 7.
Reports indicate that the driver of the semi was traveling eastbound on I-88 when the truck left the highway into the grass area.
The semi then struck the cement pillar for the overpass along Illinois 251.
The driver was extricated from the cab area. He does not appear to have life threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Rochelle Community Hospital.
The driver was trapped in the cab of the semi-truck for around 20 minutes.
Fuel from thee truck did spill onto the ground following the crash along with dry ice in the trailer.
Engineers were called to the scene to check on the damage to the overpass for I-88 and to see if any lanes would be closed on the tollway and Illinois 251. All lanes are open for traffic today.
