Rochelle City Council Meets Last Night

The Rochelle City Council approved the purchase of three new police vehicles at last night’s meeting.  Following a lengthy discussion the council approved the purchase of a Dodge Ram Crew 1500 Police Service 4 by 4 pickup truck and two Dodge Chargers from Prescott Ford in Rochelle.  The cost will be just over $84,000.  The pickup truck is needed for the transportation of the portable scales that are used for truck enforcement.  The Council approved the purchase by a 4 to 2 vote, with Dan and Tom McDermott voting No.

The Council passed an ordinance to increase the Simplified Municipal Telecommunications Tax from 5 to 6 percent.  The additional 1% could increase the General Fund by about $53,000 per year.

Also approved last night was an engineering agreement with Willett Hofman and Associates for the Design of Well House 10.  Well 10 on Southview Drive is in need of major rehabilitation.  The proposed expenditure at this time will be about $135,500.

The Council approved the easement agreement with the Flagg Rochelle Park District to cover any additional costs for a section of the bike path work near Well 11 on Flagg Road.  In order to construct the radium removal plant the City will need to cross the bike path to run utilities and a permanent access road.  That work will be started late summer and the park district may have to delay work that was scheduled this year on that section of the path.

The Council also approved the purchase of the Hubbell Insulators from Anixter, at the price of about $53,600.  This is for the Steward Transmission Line.

And Council approved a resolution to change rates for rental, or security lighting.  There are 365 customers who have security lighting.  The new rate will go into effect January 1st.  After that, RMU will only maintain the rental lights for current customers.  No additional rental lights will be installed by RMU.

Also last night Council approved Kiwanis Club and Golden K to hold its Annual Peanut Day on September 9th, The Rochelle Middle School to use city streets for a Color Run on September 23rd, and for the Annual Trick or Treat to be on October 31st from 5 until 8.
