Governor Rauner has signed a gun crimes bill, the day after he tried to use it as a bargaining chip in budget negotiations with Mayor Emanuel. The bill will allow judges to impose tougher sentences on repeat gun offenders.
Democrats had been holding the bill, but Senate sponsor Kwame Raoul said he didn't want it caught in a political game.
Rauner Thursday urged Democrats to send him the gun bill as a show of good faith, after he rejected a compromise from Emanuel on two other bills involving the sale of the Thompson Center and a city pension fund bailout.
