Lee County officials are the latest to warn that they may lose 911 service if the governor doesn't sign a new law. Lee County 911 Director Shelley Dallas yesterday said she fears people may dial 911 and not be connected.
The issue is a new law that doubles the 911 fee on phone bills across Illinois, but also would give the city of Chicago millions of dollars from that fee to pay for pensions. Governor Rauner has the law on his desk, but hasn't indicated what he plans to do.
