Lee County Sheriff's Police arrested an Iowa man early this morning following a vehicle chase that reached speeds as high as 140 miles per hour.
Garnie Head III from Clinton, Iowa was arrested on charges that included aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude police along with speeding. He was also wanted on warrants from Lee, Whiteside, and DeKalb Counties.
The chase began on Route 30 near Hoyle Road in Lee County a short time before midnight. It also included I-88.
Head's vehicle was found abandoned on Moline Road near Route 30 in Lee County. The front driver's side tire was flat due to stop sticks on the road. The passenger front side tire was down to only the rim.
Head was taken into custody while walking near the area his car was found by police. He was arrested without incident.
Authorities say he was also arrested in May of last year for fleeing to elude police along with domestic battery.
No one suffered any injuries during the car chase this morning. Lee County Sheriff's Police were assisted during the incident by Rock Falls Police, Whiteside County Sheriff's Police, and Illinois State Police.
