Businesses in Rochelle have been hit over the past several weeks with counterfeit money being used to make purchases. No arrests have been made.
The bills have come in both 100 and in 20's. During this week's program "Let The People Know", Rochelle Police Chief Eric Higby talked about the problem.
He said that the counterfeit bills are high quality and pass field tests at businesses. Highby said that last batch of fake money was on regular paper used for money.
The chief said that other area communities east of Rochelle have faced this same problem. He said it is harder to catch the individual or individuals if they continue circulate the counterfeit money around Northern Illinois.
Local police contact federal authorities each time they receive counterfeit money in Rochelle.
"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Good Time Oldies 1060 and on Saturday morning at 6:30 on WRHL and Sunday morning at 6:30 on "The Coyote".
Next week's guest will be RTHS Superintendent Jamie Craven.
