Hillcrest officials consider a 6.2 million dollar water project in the village

Hillcrest officials heard an update report last night on corrections that need to be made in their water system with an estimated price tag of 6 million, 250 thousand dollars.

This would include a second water tower that would hold 200,000 gallons and water main replacements with a diameter between 6 to 12 inches. Engineer Jim Sparber from Baxter & Woodman in DeKalb said that they need more water storage in the village along with improved flow in case of a fire.

The new water tower would be located on the north side of the village, possibly in the Windover subdivision. The water main replacements include Oak and Maple Avenues, Hemstock, Errett, Rosalind, Wayne, and Power Roads. There would also be a Rochelle interconnection project to their system.

No action was taken by the board on the water proposal. Sparber said it would take several years to get all of the work completed in Hillcrest.

Winners from last month's Consolidated Election were sworn into office yesterday evening. Voted to the board were Randy Salsbury, Jason Fore, and Pamela Pittman.

The village plans to go out for bids involving street repairs. The estimated cost would be $140,000 as work will begin late summer or early fall. The patch and seal coat work will be done on 11 areas in the village. Motor fuel tax money will be used for the road project.

Repairs are also needed on the water well at a cost not to exceed $15,000.

Village officials met in executive session for about a half hour to talk about possible litigation. No action was taken.

Clean-up day is scheduled for this Saturday between 8 and 5 in Hillcrest. A dumpster will be located at the Village Hall building.
