Whiteside County deputy ticketed in fatal crash

A Whiteside County deputy has been ticketed following a fatal crash last summer which left a Morrison man dead who was riding a motorcycle.

Deputy Jeffrey Wunderlich has been ticketed for making an improper left turn and turning the wrong way on a one-way street.

Killed in the crash was 58-year old Bill Damhoff. He was traveling westbound on Route 30 near Emerson Road in Whiteside County when he was thrown from his motorcycle following the collision with the squad car.

Reports indicate that Wunderlich was eastbound on Route 30 and turning north onto Emerson Road. He was using the southbound turn lane.

Illinois State Police say that Wunderlich's decision to turn the wrong way onto a one-way lane was a contributing factor in the death of Damhoff.

The Morrison man was traveling over 60 miles per hour when his motorcycle struck the squad car.

Wunderlich, fron Fenton, was placed on administrative leave following the accident. He went back to work last October following a toxicology test.

Damhoff's wife is suing Whiteside County and Wunderlich for damages in excess of $50,000.
