Bishop Hill Heritage Association receives a grant from the Swedish Council of America

The Bishop Hill Heritage Association is pleased to announce that it has recently received a grant of $500 from the Swedish Council of America towards financing a concert featuring Joe Hill songs. Joe Hill, born Joel Emmanuel Hägglund in Gävle, Sweden (October 7, 1879 – November 19, 1915), was a Swedish-American labor activist and songwriter. On June 3, 2017 a traveling exhibit from the American Swedish Historical Society in Philadelphia called Workers of the World, Awaken!: The Life and Legacy of Joe Hill will open at the Steeple Building Museum. As part of opening day, the Joe Hill concert, performed by singer/songwriter Bucky Halker, will also occur at the Steeple Building Museum at 2 p.m. This concert is free and open to the public due to the financial support provided by the SCA. The BHHA thanks the Swedish Council of America for its continued generous support!
