State rejects autism, pain for medical pot


The state health department is rejecting the addition of autism and intractable pain as conditions eligible for treatment with medical marijuana.


Both conditions were recommended in 2015 by the Medical Cannabis Advisory Board, but state health director Nirav Shah says evidence doesn't support the conclusion that those conditions would be eased by using marijuana.


There are about 40 conditions that Illinois does recognize as qualifying for a medical marijuana prescription.
