1 person is dead following a 2-vehicle head on collsion in DeKalb County Tuesday morning

In area news, DeKalb County Sheriff's Police are investigating a 2-vehicle head on collision which took place yesterday morning which claimed the life of an Iowa woman.

Pronounced dead at the scene was 24-year old Joann Weeks of Pleasant Valley, Iowa.

The accident took place a short time after 6:15 Tuesday morning on Somonauk Road, just north of Gurler Road, in DeKalb County.

A car driven by 23-year old Jacob Ensign of DeKalb was traveling northbound on Somonauk Road when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane. The head on collision occurred with the car Weeks was driving.

Ensign was first transported by ambulance to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb and later to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for treatment of his injuries.

He was ticketed by sheriff's police for improper lane usage.

Sheriff's police say that seatbelts were worn by both drivers.
