State union authorizes strike

Illinois' largest state employee union is authorizing a strike if there's no progress soon in the long-stalled negotiations with Governor Rauner. The AFSCME vote means a strike could be called at any time. Union executive Roberta Lynch says they want to get back to the bargaining table, but she says they won't just "roll over."
Governor Rauner says a strike would be an attack on taxpayers. He says the state is ready for a strike and promised that essential services would continue, though he refused to say how. Rauner has tried to impose his last offer, but has been blocked by the courts.
