A male driver suffered serious injuries Saturday afternoon following a rollover crash on I-39, about 2 miles north of Rochelle.
The accident took place at around 4:45 as the car rolled over at least once as the driver was trapped inside.
The vehicle came to rest in the grass area between the northbound and southbound lanes of I-39.
A spokesman for the Rochelle Fire Department said it took emergency personnel around 20 minutes to extricate the driver out of the car.
He was then flown by helicopter to a Rockford Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
