The National Safety Council is pointing to continuing lower gas prices as the reason that motor vehicle deaths are up across the country for the second year in a row. The Itasca-based organization found that road deaths jumped six-percent last year to more than 40-thousand, following a seven-percent rise the year before.
In Illinois, the number of vehicle-related deaths last year was up six-percent over 2015 to nearly eleven-hundred.
