Investigation continues involving a fatal fire in Byron

Ogle County Sheriff's Police along with the Illinois State Police and the Byron Police Department continue to investigate a fire last October that killed 2 people.

31-year old Margaret "Maggie" Meyer was found dead inside her home at 2020 Silverton Avenue in Byron. Her 3-year old son Amos died at a Rockford hospital from internal injuries.

Both deaths have been ruled homicides.

The cause of the fire remains suspicious in nature. Police continue to pursue the persons responsible for the deaths of Meyer and her son.

Investigators believe that the fire began on the night of October 18th. Emergency personnel did not respond to smoke inside the home until early on October 19th.

The flames appear to have started near a couch inside the home.

Anyone with information about the arson fire or saw anything suspicious in the Byron area the night of October 18th of last year should call the Ogle County Sheriff's Department at 732-2136 or Ogle-Lee Crime Stoppers at 888-228-4488.
