Rochelle teen back in court following residential burglary

A Rochelle teen was back in Ogle County court on Friday after he was originally arrested for the felony offense of home invasion.

18-year old Tyler Zies has now been charged with the Class 1 felony of residential burglary and the Class 4 felony of criminal trespass to a residence.

Ogle County officials say that the facts in the case did not fit the original charge of home invasion.

The incident took place on the evening of January 2nd at an apartment in the 300 block of South 3rd Street in Rochelle.

The victim told police that 3 male subjects forced their way into the apartment and began to take items from the living room area.

No one was hurt from the incident and nothing was taken from the residence. The victim allegedly fought off the 3 men. 1 showed a handgun.

Zies returns to court on February 22nd for a preliminary hearing. At that time, he will plead guilty or innocent to the felony charges.

Zies was also released from jail yesterday on a $50,000 recognizance bond.

Rochelle police say that additional arrests are pending in the case.
