The City of Rochelle warns local residents of an ambulance phone scam hitting nearby communities.
Several area individuals have received calls from someone pretending to be a representative of a local ambulance company. The caller says that a relative has been injured in an accident and asks for personal, identifying information as well as payment information.
The Rochelle Fire Department does not attempt to collect payment in this manner.
If you receive this type of call, do not share personal information on the phone. Hang up, note the number on your caller ID and call the Rochelle Police Department at 562-2131 to report the incident. Residents may also call the Rochelle Fire Department to validate a call at 562-2121.
