In a 4-2 vote last night, park officials in Rochelle approved $2,645 to hire a project manager for the possibility of the construction of a fieldhouse and maybe an aquatic center.
Voting against the proposal were Michael Cruz and Bud Norcross while Michelle Pease abstained. Cruz was concerned about the future of Spring Lake and the Hickory Grove operations if the facility is built.
The City of Rochelle and Rochelle Township High School will also be putting in the same amount of money for the project manager.
What information do they expect in the future? Park District Executive Director Roger Bunger said they expect to receive cost figures on the facility. These numbers will determine if the taxing bodies will move forward with the project.
The individual who will be the project manager was also involved in the construction of the current RTHS.
$800,000 in general obligation bonds were approved for park projects this year. Bunger said that the money will be used on repairs for the Spring Lake swimming pool along with the extension of the bike path and work needed for the current asphalt surface.
The park district also purchased a new pick-up truck at a cost of $10,664.
