New felony charges for Rochelle man in apartment altercation

New felony charges have been filed against a Rochelle man after he was originally arrested for the offense of home invasion.

18-year old Tyler Zies has now been charged with the Class 1 felony of residential burglary and the Class 4 felony of criminal trespass to a residence.

Ogle County State's Attorney Eric Morrow told WRHL News that the facts in the case did not fit the original charge of home invasion.

The incident took place on the evening of January 2nd at an apartment in the 300 block of South 3rd Street in Rochelle.

The victim told police that 3 male subjects forced their way into the apartment and began to take items from the living room area. The victim allegedly fought off the 3 men. 1 showed a handgun.

No one was hurt from the incident and nothing was taken from the residence.

In court yesterday, the judge denied a bond reduction request from Zies. It remains at $50,000.

Zies returns to court next Friday in Oregon for a status hearing. He remains in jail in lieu of bond.

Rochelle police say that additional arrests are pending in the case.
