Chances for a state budget compromise are looking worse after Tuesday's meeting between legislative leaders and Governor Rauner. Afterward, House Speaker Michael Madigan said he's appointing state Representative Greg Harris of Chicago to head a new budget negotiating team, but Republican House leader Jim Durkin called that a stalling maneuver.
The veto session of the Legislature begins today and Governor Rauner had expressed hope for a compromise budget plan, though he continues to insist that it include at least some of his reform plans. Madigan indicated that would be a deal-breaker.
