A woman and her son are dead following a 2-story house fire Wednesday morning in Byron.
The blaze was noticed at around 6:30 at 2020 Silverthorn Avenue as smoke had filled the home.
Byron Police say that the woman was found deceased inside the residence. The child was pronounced dead at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
The Ogle and Winnebago County coroner's offices have not released the names of the victims until families members have been notified.
The cause of the flames remains under investigation by the Byron Police and Fire Departments along with Ogle County Sheriff's Police, Illinois State Police, and the State's Fire Marshall's Office.
Fire departments from Stillman Valley, Oregon, Mt. Morris, and Leaf River assisted at the scene yesterday.
