Domestic violence cases increase for HOPE of Ogle County

HOPE of Ogle County has seen a sharp increase in several areas during their past fiscal year in handling domestic violence confrontations.

The organization's fiscal year goes from July 1st through June 30th.

Hope of Ogle County Executive Director Ruth Carter said that numbers are up in hot line calls, orders of protection, and service hours.

HOPE has seen an increase of nearly 2,000 service hours for their clients and 539 more hot line calls.

Carter was a guest this week on the program "Let The People Know". She believes 1 reason for the increase is due to people being more educated on this issue. She hopes they get help sooner than in past years.

October is domestic violence awareness month.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".

Next week's guest will be Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville.
