In a victory for Illinois Republicans, a federal judge is blocking election-day voter registration. The ruling means that densely populated areas of Illinois will not be allowed to sign voters up in the polling places this November as they did on the day of the March primary.
Republicans filed suit in August claiming the law that mandated expanded same-day registration only in high population areas is unfair because voters in less-populated areas, most of them Republican-leaning, don't have equal access. An appeal is possible.
