Vocalist, teacher, lyricist, Grammy-nominated arranger, and Grammy award-winning ensemble singer, Kim Nazarian will be at RTHS next Tuesday, October 4 working with student vocalists.
A soprano, Nazarian is a founding member of the New York Voices, the only vocal group in recent memory to win two Grammys for live concert recordings (one of Brazilian music with Paquito D’Rivera, the other for Big Band Jazz with the Count Basie Orchestra).
Kim has worked with and conducted choirs around the world, including the New York State Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the Arizona All-State Jazz Choir. Kim shares her perspectives on music and life as a musician through teaching private students, clinics, workshops, jazz camps, master classes, festival adjudication and guest conducting for singers on all levels from grade to graduate school in the US and abroad.
Choir Director Cory Jones said, “We are excited to welcome Kim to Rochelle and give her a taste of Northern Illinois. She will stay into the evening working with our vocal jazz ensembles Midnight Voices and After Hours.”
Jones explained Nazarian heard the group perform in March 2016 and sought him out, encouraging him to submit an entry for the group to perform at the Jazz Educators’ Network (JEN) Conference. “She promised the kids if they made it, she would sing a number with them at the concert in New Orleans.”
Midnight Voices was has been invited to perform at the JEN Conference in early 2017 and looks forward to sharing the stage with Kim Nazarian.
