No sharp increases in crime rate for Rochelle so far this year.

The Rochelle Police Department has not seen a sharp increase in crime so far this year when you look at the numbers for the first 9 months.

Larger cities in the state such as Chicago and Rockford have seen a rise in violent crimes when it comes to shootings and homicides. During yesterday's program "Let The People Know", Rochelle Police Chief Eric Higby said that the numbers are similiar to last year for the city. This include violent crimes and burglaries.

There has been a lot of talk around the country of having police officers wearing body cameras when on patrol. Chief Higby said that this will not happen for the present time with his department. Costs for the cameras along with the time spent for officers filing paper work in cases are 2 reasons for the decision.

Each squad car in the Rochelle Police Department does have a camera which is used during traffic stops.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".
