Following a recommendation from a study involving 4 local school districts, the Rochelle Township High School board is not interested in consolidating in the future.
The study involved RTHS, the Rochelle elementary school district along with the Eswood and Kings School Districts. RTHS Superintendent Jamie Craven said that the board went on the recommendation from the study involving the consolidation proposals.
Craven said that salaries were a key issue involving the consolidation. Teachers at RTHS are on a higher pay scale than the other local school districts.
The new fiscal year budget was approved last night as the district is looking at a defict of $718,000. More than half of that total came from the costs of upgrading the bus facility.
The district is also looking at an operational deficit of $334,000.
The board heard a positive report on the 3-year study from Kishwaukee College in Malta. More students are better prepared for college than 3 years ago at RTHS. This includes Math, English, and Reading.
Following an executive session, the board approved the retirement of Athletic Director Kevin Crandall following the 2017-18 school year.
