Ogle County Health Department reports first signs of West Nile Virus

The Ogle County Health Department has identified the first positive crow with West Nile Virus.

The bird was found in the city of Polo. The health department continues their surveillance in the surrounding areas of Ogle County.

The hot and dry weather late into the summer has created ideal conditions and increased the rate of Culex mosquito production. The West Nile Virus may be seen in birds, humans, and livestock.

There have been no human cases reported this year in Ogle County.

To reduce the risk for human cases, people should remove any standing water outside your home and use insect repellent when outdoors between dusk and dawn.
