Dixon man arrested following police shooting

A Dixon man has been arrested following a shooting last week by police during a hostage incident.

33-year old Justin Llanas had been recovering in a Rockford hospital from gunshot wounds to the abdomen, leg, and wrist. When he was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon, Llanas was arrested by Illinois State Police on the charge of attempted first degree murder along with aggravated battery, unlawful restraint, domestic battery, and resisting a police officer.

Llanas had stabbed a male subject during the altercation. The victim's injuries were non-life threatening.

Police first used a taser to try to take Llanas into custody. A short time later, 2 police officers from Dixon fired their guns.

Following the shooting, 4 police officers were placed on paid administrative leave. They returned to work last Tuesday, 6 days after the incident.

Dixon Police Chief Danny Langloss says that the shooting was justified. The investigation into the use of deadly force by the officers continues with the Illinois State Police.
