The approval of the new fiscal year appropriation along with rusty water in the village topped the discussion last night for officials in Hillcrest.
The appropriation totals $715,560 which is just over $100,000 more than a year ago. The increases include the payment of the loan for the sanitary sewer project along with the possibility of purchasing a salt shed.
Board President Steve Dodson said it will be a tight budget. He stressed that the biggest problem the village is faced with is rusty water in certain areas of the community and the lack of water pressure in case there is a fire in Hillcrest.
The new fiscal year for Hillcrest started on July 1st.
There are currently different viewpoints by the trustees on if Phase 2 of the sanitary sewer project will begin. The work includes River, Wayne, Errett, and Powers Roads along with Linda and Roy Avenues. The board will vote next month on if they will apply for an Illinois EPA loan for Phase 2.
Phase 1 of the sanitary sewer project included River Road along with Ramona Avenue.
The sales tax ordinance was amended from 6.25% to 6.75% which was approved by voters last March. The increase will begin January 1st, 2017.
The board also approved the purchase of new equipment for the phone system after it was hit by lightning from a recent storm.
The board met for a half hour in executive session to talk about personnel. No action was taken.
