Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says students heading to college this fall should be aware of a new state law requiring schools to have procedures in place to respond to sexual violence complaints.
Madigan joined officials from the University of Illinois Chicago and anti-rape activists yesterday to highlight the law, which was the result of summits Madigan convened around the state. Among other things, the law requires colleges and universities to have clear policies for taking sexual violence complaints and guidelines for responding to them that include advising potential victims of their rights and options.
