The Rochelle elementary board heard a year end report on the financial status in the district last night. The fiscal year ended on June 30th.
The district is faced with a deficit of around $680,000. This includes a half million dollars in the education fund. Superintendent Todd Prusator said that the board was not surprised with the numbers due to the state aid situation in Illinois.
He also said that the stopgap budget approved by lawmakers helped many districts in the state for this fall.
The board will hold a budget workshop on August 9th prior to the regular scheduled monthly meeting involving numbers for the current fiscal year.
The district is still looking for 2 speech teachers for the next school year. They also approved bids last night for dairy and bakery products. The companies have been with the school district for the past 3 years.
Substitute teachers will see a pay increase of 5 dollars per day. They will now receive $80.
The board also transfered 1 million dollars from the working cash fund to the operations and maintenance fund. The money will be used for masonry work at Central, Tilton, and May schools this summer.
