Rockford woman is killed in Ogle County boating accident

A Rockford woman is dead following a boating accident last night in Ogle County on the Rock River.

32-year old Megan Wells was pronounced dead at a Rockford Hospital by the Winnebago County Coroner's office.

The incident took place a short time after 8:30 on the Rock River, about 3 miles north of Oregon. Emergency personnel received word of several people in the water after a pontoon boat collided with a fishing boat.

Well was on the pontoon boat along with 52-year old David Daily of Leaf River and 52-year old Phillip Lukes of Chicago.

46-year old Marc Mongan and 29-year old Nicholas Lamb, both from Oregon, were in the fishing boat.

The 4 other individuals involved in the accident were all taken by ambulance to a Rockford hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency personnel from the Oregon and Byron Fire Departments responded to the scene along with the Air-One Emergency Response Coalition.

Ogle County Sheriff's Police have turned over the investigation to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police.
