Illinois lawmakers are expected to be back in Springfield next Wednesday, just days before the current fiscal year ends. The General Assembly has until July 1st to approve a stopgap budget or plan for schools. Without a spending plan, the state's comptroller's office won't be able to make payments for K-12 schools, colleges and MAP grants and local governments. Governor Rauner said yesterday that negotiations on a stopgap budget are "very close" to being finalized.
