The Rochelle Area Community Foundation is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year in helping non-profit organizations along with area schools with certain projects. They were also involved in assisting many area families when the tornado struck rural Rochelle in April of 2015.
During yesterday's program "Let The People Know", foundation Executive Director Kim Montgomery talked about the goal for the organization. They want to build wealth in the community by providing opportunities for people to donate money that would be invested. As the money grows, each year they can spend a portion of the earnings back into the community for organizations and schools.
Montgomery said that the foundation was started by Leonard Carmchael along with other local residents to give back to the community. The foundation has distributed more than $770,000 over the past 10 years. This includes the victims from the tornado.
