Death investigation completed involving a Rochelle man in DeKalb County

No criminal charges will be filed against anyone from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department following the death of 28-year old Brandon Washington of Rochelle on February 8th of this year.

Reports indicate that Washington was found unresponsive in his jail cell early that morning. CPR was performed as he was transported to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb where Washington was pronounced dead.

Following an autopsy, the cause of death was heroine intoxication. Washington took the drug while in his jail cell.

During an internal investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, only one incident was identified in which proper search procedures were not conducted involving Washington.

They have no evidence that this particular lapse was connected to his death.

Washington came to the DeKalb County jail from the Department of Corrections in November of 2015 for a court appearance. He was convicted of attempted First Degree Murder in 2009.

DeKalb County Sheriff's Police are continuing their investigation into how and by whom the heroin was brought into the jail which caused the death of Washington.
