The former mayor of Amboy was 1 of 8 men arrested this week by Winnebago County Sheriff's Police for public indecency.
62-year old Francis Mekeel was charged with the misdemeanor offense as the alleged incident took place in a Winnebago County forest preserve.
The other 7 men arrested were from Rockford.
Sheriff's police report that they entered 4 forest preserves on Wednesday and Thursday of this week after receiving complaints of sexual related incidents.
Mekeel was mayor in Amboy for 6 years before being defeated by current Mayor Tom Nauman during a 2013 election. He was also an alderman for 6 years in the community.
Mekeel was released after he posted the $1,500 bond. He was given a court date of May 16th in Winnebago County court.
