A Dixon man was killed yesterday afternoon after he was buried under several tons of concrete in an accident that took place at the Winnebago County Landfill along Lindenwood Road in Rockford.
54-year old Gonzalo Trevino suffered fatal injuries from the incident.
Authorities say that the box portion of a semi tractor-trailer containing concrete was raised to dump the debris when it tipped over on its side. It took emergency personnel nearly an hour to find Trevino under the concrete.
Fire Departments from around the area responded to the landfill following the incident. They had to remove the concrete by hand.
Trevino was an employee of the garbage company.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration are expected to investigate the accident. There could have been an equipment malfunction or soft ground around the semi truck.
