The Illinois Municipal League and the state's largest firefighters' union want to make sure you can't sue if they take too long to respond to an emergency. Illinois used to have a "public duty rule" which guaranteed protection for the community, not people. But an Illinois Supreme Court case tossed that idea.
Firefighters yesterday joined the Municipal League to call for a new "common sense" law that says they can't be held liable if they take too long to respond to a 911 call.
