In a 6-1 vote last night, city officials in Rochelle approved the new fiscal year budget.
The council had to approve the final numbers by this Saturday as the new fiscal year starts on May 1st.
Councilman Dave Eckhardt was the only city official to vote against the proposal. He said he voted against the proposal due to the $750,000 deficit in the General Fund and the 3 million dollar gap in the budget for RMU.
Eckhardt did not want to take money out of the landfill fund to balance to budget.
Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson said that the city saw some unexpected high expenses this fiscal year which included the tornado and other storms. He said that they had to take some money out of special funds for the new fiscal year budget.
Revenues in the General Fund increased by 5 percent compared to a year ago. Expenditures rose by 4 percent.
The council approved the intergovernmental agreement with the park district dealing with the Fairways Golf Course. The workers will be city employees. The manager will report to the park district executive director.
The yearly maintenance agreement was also approved for Phase II of the skid load project at a cost of just over $41,000.
The council met in executive session as the discussion included personnel along with the sale or lease of property. No action was taken.
