Great Lakes Basin Transportation Incorportated has scheduled a public meeting this evening in Rochelle involving the possibility of a railroad freight line being built in the area.
The meeting begins at 5:30 at Rochelle Township High School.
The company plans to file a request with the Surface Transportation Board to construct and operate around 278 miles of rail line. It would extend from LaPorte, Indiana through Illinois to Milton, Wisconsin.
Area counties that would be involved with the project include Ogle, Lee, Boone, LaSalle, and Winnebago.
Great Lakes Basin Transportation hopes the line would connect with excisting Class 1 railroads.
A presentation on the project will be heard during the meeting along with public comments.
