A worker at NIU in DeKalb is suing Governor Rauner and other state officials, claiming the state budget impasse has left her and others without health insurance.
Carrie Weeks-Kinowski, a nonunion employee at the university, says that since the budget stalemate the state has stopped sending workers' insurance withholdings to the insurance companies and they've stopped covering medical expenses.
Weeks-Kinowski says the state's failure to forward those premium payments has left one-hundred-46-thousand workers, retirees and their families without coverage.
