People with disabilities in Ogle, Lee, Carroll, Jo Daviess, and Whiteside counties are now going to have to find someplace else to get services. The Northwestern Illinois Center for Independent Living is closing its office in Oregon on March 1st.
NICIL President Mary Mahan-Deatherage says they are "floundering" without a state budget.
The organization provides services for the disabled and caregiving training. NICIL's central office is located in Sterling.
Around 250 people use the services in the area. The closing of the Oregon office will affect around 40 individuals.
NICIL opened in 1985.
